PARA is a useful system for breaking down notes into categories. Specifically it removes the difficulting of focusing on organizing around folders or categories, which does work for some and focuses on a flat folder strategy. Projects are for short-term projects that are have a deadline. Areas is ongoing work or specialities that grow. Resources are sources, sometimes with notes but mostly reference material being aggregated. And Archive is anything no longer being deemed useful.
